OpenAI Codex Hackathon - Sydney
Join us for a day of building with Codex together with our friends at UTS Startups, the largest early stage startup incubator in Sydney.
We’re bringing together 100 of Sydney's most ambitious builders — developers who already use AI coding tools daily and are comfortable shipping production-grade code.
This is not an introductory workshop. Expect to move fast, build from scratch and publish what you build onto /r/codex. Spin up subagents & parallel tasks, use plugins, and leverage worktrees to operate at a higher level of velocity and ambition.
Each builder will receive API credits and 1 month of ChatGPT Pro.
What will you build?
🥇 Prizes
Prize pool of over ~200k USD in credits & subscriptions will be available.
Registration Details
Attendance is capped (maximum of 4 members per team) to keep the room high-signal & deeply hands-on.
Please note that due to venue capacity, registration is subject to approval.
Kindly complete the registration form with your accurate details, as incomplete or inaccurate submissions will not be admitted.
Note: If you intend to participate as a team, all members must register individually and receive approval separately.
Build Directions
The theme for the challenge and evaluation will be shared on the day.
Focus on ideas that wouldn’t be possible without Codex. Build with Codex, or on top of it (App Server, SDK, or your own abstractions).
If any of these directions resonate — apply:
🔹 Agentic Coding — Build developer tools that maximise leverage from Codex as an AI coding agent
🔹 UX for Agentic Applications — Design AI-native interaction patterns and product flows
🔹 Multimodal Intelligence — Create systems that reason across text, voice, and vision
🔹 Domain Agents — Go deep on vertical agents with real-world constraints
🔹 Building Evals — Build tooling to measure, debug, and improve agent performance
