Deep reading & writing for the technologically ambivalent soul
Are you confused about all this newfangled technology and the role it should play in your life?
Are you struggling to walk a sane, human middle path between the techno-maximalists and the people who think we should blow up datacenters?
Are you looking for a small island of calm amidst the stormy seas of Technological Discourse?
If so, you're in luck!
Join me, Rob Hardy, for 60-ish minutes of reading deeply, writing thoughtfully, and sharing honestly about how you're navigating this strange moment in techno history.
Here's the rough structure of how this session will work (it's completely free btw):
Choose a book or essay on tech that calls to you. Ideally something timeless instead of commentary on current events.
Spend 25 minutes reading deeply, highlighting what resonates, making lil notes in the margins, etc.
Spend 20 minutes writing, ideally by hand, about what stood out and what it brings up for you. The idea is to be in generative dialogue with these ideas instead of merely consuming information.
10-15 minutes of sharing what emerged for us.
This format is a bit of an experiment. I've been doing the solo version of deep reading/writing for the last few months and it's been great. Now I'm excited to make this practice communal.
Also, this is a small taste of the Befriending Technology book club I'm running at the start of November. So if you dig this, come join the club (which is also free).
