Artist Lecture: Cinema Thinking Through Machines w/ Artefacto (Anna Giralt Gris & Dr Jorge Caballero)
ABOUT THE LECTURE
Artificial intelligence is not an external tool added to cinema; it is a new layer of perception.
Filmmakers and researchers Anna Giralt Gris and Jorge Caballero, co-founders of Artefacto, explore how machine vision and generative models are transforming the ways films are imagined, analysed, and produced.
Their work combines critical theory and practical experimentation, from AI models that read and map archives to synthetic systems that reconstruct lost images and memories. Projects such as Membrana, Artifacts of War, and 09/05/1982 reveal how the cinematic apparatus now extends into algorithms, datasets, and probabilistic imagination.
In this talk, they propose cinema as an expanded field of thought, one that learns to think through machines, to make processes visible, and to turn uncertainty into a new form of truth.

AI Greenhouse is a two-year collaboration between the Netherlands Film Academy and AIxDESIGN to research and cultivate (more) responsible approaches to AI in filmmaking and film eduction.
Led by artist-researchers Nadia Piet and Pablo Núñez Palma, AI Greenhouse will organize a public event program and create the Creative’s AI Literacy Cookbook — a set of experimental pedagogy practices to contribute to the ethical, sustainable and community-driven integration of AI in filmmaking.
ABOUT NETHERLANDS FILM ACADEMY
The Netherlands Film Academy (NFA) is part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts, and the only film school in The Netherlands that trains emerging filmmakers in all subdisciplines: directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, sound, production design, visual effects, and interactive media. Based in Amsterdam, it offers hands-on, collaborative education with state-of-the-art facilities and strong industry partnerships.
