About Event
Overview
In the lead-up to COP, several Asian countries particularly Korea and Japan are promoting hydrogen and ammonia co-firing in coal and gas power plants as a central strategy to decarbonize the power sector. This narrative is increasingly being exported to Southeast Asia. However, growing evidence highlights that hydrogen and ammonia co-firing is neither cost-effective nor climate-aligned, risking fossil fuel lock-in, higher energy prices, and diversion of resources away from renewables.
