Unblock: Challenges in AI for Science Salon

AI could accelerate scientific discovery. So what's in the way?

Join us in-person on Thursday 13th August for:

  • Challengescape launch - Encode's live map of translational AI-for-science problems, drawn from over 120 research proposals from across the UK. Explore the platform yourself, live on the night.

  • Roundtables led by CompMotifs - discussion on the real roadblocks facing AI for science, from the lab bench to funding and policy.

  • Pizza, drinks, and thought provoking conversations.

Expect problem statements, honest conversation, and a room full of people who can actually do something about it.

Spots are limited, apply to attend below.

About the organisers:

Pillar VC invests at inception in companies solving the world's greatest challenges. With a significant track record of investing in over 150 companies, with deep university roots throughout, Pillar has raised over $500 million across 4 funds. Pillar VC’s Encode Fellowship, powered by the UK’s Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) and Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), brings together the brightest minds in AI with pioneering scientific research across the UK. Over 12 months, Encode Fellows receive salary, compute and the freedom to build - launching new ventures, tools, research organisations and more.

CompMotifs is a collective of computational natural scientists working to accelerate scientific discovery through computational methods and tools. Founded in 2024 and now 15 researchers strong across Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and beyond, the group spans chemistry, biology, physics and neuroscience. CompMotifs' Hack the Sciences hackathons bring together researchers across computational physics, chemistry, biology and neuroscience to hack on tools that solve shared bottlenecks in the scientific pipeline.
