Root Tracing Workshop, hosted by Onto

​You are welcome to join our Root Tracing Workshop, organized by media lab Onto (Vertti, Lù, and Begüm). This workshop is part of a research project Onto is conducting with the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

​Separating roots from soil is a (surprisingly) complex task that frequently involves subjective judgement. As media artists-researchers, we want to ask: can the data labelling process for a root-recognising AI model be art? Or, at the very least, a somewhat fun activity?

​When: Thursday, July 23rd, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (18:00–20:00)

​Where: Room "Greenhouse" at Space 21, Vuorimiehentie 2A, 02150 Espoo

​What to expect:

• ​A short presentation about the research project,

• ​Many root scans to look at and draw together either with colouring pencils on paper or digitally,

• ​Cake and some root-related snacks (for example, liquorice)

• ​Tea

​What to bring:

​Your own smart device (a tablet, or a laptop and a mouse) is recommended if you want to draw the images digitally
