POWER TO DECIDE
Celebrating our histories to imagine our future
We know that rollbacks narrow what feels possible — and that within our own movements, there is a crisis of imagination. This exhibition is our answer: evidence-based hope, drawn from history.
POWER TO DECIDE captures pivotal moments in the global movement for safe and legal abortion across six decades, from 1970 to 2025. Bringing together photographs, posters, films, objects and testimonies, it explores how change has been made — through courage, creativity, strategy and solidarity across generations and geographies.
This exhibition is part of the Abortion Archives, a living, movement-led initiative that safeguards our collective memory and activates it for the struggles ahead. It is a pop-up by the movement and for the movement: it folds and unfolds, carrying its current to different territories.
Moving through the space, visitors encounter a series of portals — moments of resistance, care, loss and victory — that connect past and present, and remind us that progress has never been linear, but has always been collective.
As Women Deliver convenes global actors in Naarm (Melbourne) to shape what comes next, this exhibition asks: What do we carry forward? And what futures can we imagine together?
