GÆMZ #71 CPH at Fælledparken
What is Gæmz?
Gæmz is a community for the people who are into art/experimental games, playful media, and d0peshit founded in 2019 by Nomi (thenomi.com). Our mission is to be a safe and friendly community that can help us have a more exciting and interesting art-things world especially by supporting the artists and the like.
Gæmz CPH is the new spinoff happening in Copenhagen, organized by Horațiu Roman (horatiuromantic.com / complicatednonsense.com). The idea is to connect with each other and get inspired, support each other with our presence, and hear about what's happening in the local scene.
This will hopefully be a monthly recurring meetup, every third Thursday of each month - at least for the rest of 2026.
We have a discord server where we keep in touch with other gaemz locations in Tokyo, London, Berlin, Taipei, etc. and international folks, and we have social media channels.
You can find the discord and all the social links here (and more): https://gaemz.carrd.co/
Program
We'll introduce ourselves and some of our wacky projects, with some improvised conversational minigames, and then we'll just hang out and get to know each other. This time without any screens!
Feel free to bring prototypes, minigames, book/canvas/art stuff, or links that you wanna share!
The spot for this month's event is Fælledparken, by the lake. There is a public toilet nearby, if necessary. Bring your own beverages and/or snacks!
☔️ If it's rainy, we will probably move to the Pavillon Beer Garden in Fælledparken nearby - but we hope it won't rain and the location might change when we learn more about the weather forecast, so please keep an eye on the event.
💃🕺 At 19:00 there will be a swing dancing (boogie woogie) intro class at Dansepladsen, followed by a social dance from 20:00 to ~22:00. Those who are not into dancing are welcome to continue hanging out with the gæmz people on the grass, and those who wanna try dancing to jazz music are welcome to join this free event!
Practical
📍 Here's a picture of the map, posted in the description of the facebook event, in case it helps to find the location more easily:
Feel free to email Horatiu at horatiuromantic [@] gmail [dot] com if you have any questions about the event! The park is pretty big so there is no limit to the amount of people that can come!
We will officially end the event at 19:00 in case people wanna go dancing at Dansepladsen. At ~20:00 Horatiu is definitely planning to go dancing, so you can join him if you wanna!
Why is it called Gæmz?
We’re Gæmz and it’s supposed to be pronounced ‘games’ although we’re pretty chill about the pronunciation part but we’re called Gæmz because Nomi (who started Gæmz in ~2019) wanted to say “I started this games meet-up called gæmz meetup” in in-person conversations.
Although it’s still in the logo, we have kind of dropped ‘meetup’ from the name as we want to emphasise that we are a community and not just events.
The character Æ/æ is called ash or æsh in English and it represents the Latin diphthong ae. So, gaemz can be an alternative spelling of gæmz.
Statement on AI
Gæmz welcomes everyone but we are against the unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI. It's unethical and sucks. If you agree with us, you can also sign this protest letter Statement on AI Training
Safer Space Policy & Code of Conduct
Gæmz is dedicated to providing a harassment free social experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, faiths, backgrounds, or artistic/game preferences.
We want Gæmz to be like a dimly-lit film theatre where it’s a bit easier to cry because nobody can see you and even if they see you, they’d usually understand why you’re crying on a physiological level. That’s the space we want. So let’s keep this space nice & safe for everyone!
Photo/Video Documentation
Usually we don’t take photos at Gæmz but someone may want to take some photographs.
If you don’t want to have photographs of your things taken, please let us know. And if you want to take photos, it’ll be nice if you ask everyone first.
