Overview of the film - ‘Fierce and passionate individuals are taking audacious measures to save a planet in crisis. The Rewilders is a visually spectacular short documentary that follows pioneering conservationists on three continents, working to rewild iconic species like jaguar, elephant, bison and Pacific salmon. The impact of their efforts is galvanizing a global movement, one species and one landscape at a time.’

PRODUCER BIOS

Mark Angelo (Key Protagonist in film)

Mark is an internationally acclaimed Canadian river conservationist, writer, speaker, teacher and paddler. In 2009, Mark founded and currently serves as the chair of United Nations backed World Rivers Day. He is also a United Nations’ award recipient as well as a recipient of both the Order of British Columbia and Order of Canada, his country’s highest honor, in recognition of his river conservation efforts both nationally and globally. He has received multiple honorary doctorates for his work in river conservation – from Simon Fraser University, Trent University, and most recently from British Columbia Institute of Technology (Former Program Head, Fish & Wildlife at BCIT) . Mark’s river conservation efforts have been the subject of several feature length films, including award-winning 2016 documentary RiverBlue and the 2021 film, Last Paddle; 1000 Rivers, 1 Life. Mark serves not just as key protagonist in the film, but also serves as an Executive Producer on The Rewilders.

Marlene Rodgers (Director, The Rewilders)

Marlene is passionate about telling stories which explore the human experience. After beginning a career as a literary academic, she moved into feature film development, working with Ontario Creates (then the OFDC) and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. From there, Marlene’s love of collaboration and mentorship led her to work extensively as a story editor and screenwriting instructor, while developing her own projects. Marlene’s short films include the award-winning Foxy Lady, Wild Cherry, which premiered at TIFF and sold internationally, and Dreams of the Dead, a short documentary exploring memory and grief. Additionally, she co-wrote the screenplay Skin to Skin, short-listed for the Sundance Writers Lab. Most recently, Marlene has worked as a documentary writer on the acclaimed Amazon series In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery, and with Trish Neufeld as co-writer on Dancing With Mom, which won a Leo Award for Screenwriting.

Kyle Gunther (Producer/Exec Producer, The Rewilders)

The Rewilders is Kyle’s first foray into the filmmaking world as a Producer and Executive Producer. Having spent a 25 year career focused within the international humanitarian development sector, spanning four continents and encompassing nineteen countries, Kyle was drawn to this project back in 2022 when approached by Mark Angelo. His deep passion and enthusiastic commitment to conservation, combined with his wealth of international development knowledge and collaboration with government, private and not-for-profit stakeholders were instrumental in formulating valuable partnerships that have ultimately brought The Rewilders to life on screen.
