About Event

Please join Era for a fruitful discussion on the philosophy and meaning of Objects and Artifacts. We’ll share a few readings on the topic beforehand to chew on.

This will be the first of our Canessa Conversations, a forum for ideas at the intersection of technology, culture, and philosophy, held in our Jackson Square Studio: a gold rush-era printing press turned art gallery that's been home to printers, journalists, the OG SF Art Institute, and now technologists, over the past 200 years.

The purpose of this salon-style conversation is to open the conversation about the topics that matter in this new era. For our first session: what is an object versus an artifact, what cultural significance do they carry, and how do we shape them to hold meaning and purpose in a time when so much comes and goes? How do we differentiate "objects" from "things"? And ultimately — how can the computing form factors of the future become objects and artifacts that help us make sense of the world, provide meaning, and leave us more fulfilled?

Come with bold opinions to share and ideas to discuss.

Light snacks and drinks provided.

Era is building the software intelligence that powers a new generation of physical devices, and we're starting these conversations to help shape a more community-led future of computing, with you.
