About Event

Sal:mender Magazine is a cultural platform dedicated to global diasporic stories. It approaches art as a medium for philosophical inquiry, exploring questions of identity, belonging and memory through curated events. Sal:mender creates intimate and participatory spaces where artists and audiences come together to reflect and engage. It is a space for children of diverse diasporas to see themselves and converse around the ideas that shape their lives.

DECOLONISING OUR LOVE II: MEMENTOS OF LOVE is born from the idea that to be loved is to be seen in our entirety, and to be seen is to be remembered.

This pop up exhibition explores memory as both a language and a practice of love within diasporic communities. Through photography and graphic design, Marianne Costade, Amanda Thedrica, Salma Bensalim, Bechir Gueled and Clara Zo’o engage with cultural archives through fashion, ephemera and intergenerational transmission.

Alongside the artworks, the evening includes a curated selection of books, magazines, and childhood games inspired by the artists’ Indonesian, Cameroonian, Senegalese, Congolese and Moroccan heritage. Through this event, Sal:mender explores how love can function as remembrance, how being seen and practiced allows cultures to endure, and how memory itself becomes a language of love.
