

Wildland Firefighter Field Training Weekend (S-130 course)
The Mt. Adams Prescribed Burn Association is hosting a wildland firefighter field training (S-130 field day) on the weekend of April 11th and 12th. Saturday, April 11th will include the classroom portions of the training and a pack test and shelter deployment test. On Sunday, April 12th the training will merge with our Mt. Adams PBA Learn and Burn workshop (https://luma.com/tvtohupl) and will focus on applying what we've learned to an operational context with implementation of a small prescribed burn, if conditions allow.
This offering is open to anyone looking to expand their fire experience and knowledge.
When: Saturday April 11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. AND Sunday April 12th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Camp Draper, 139 Draper Springs Rd, Glenwood, WA and the Pine Flats Tract of the Mt. Adams Community Forest (adjacent to Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge)
Cost: Free!
What this training will cover
Enhanced safety and training - learn how to assess risks, build mitigation plans, and understand firefighting safety systems like LCES (Lookouts, Communication, Escape Routes, and Safety Zones), and their importance.
Foundational fire training - skills and knowledge for working safely on both wildland fires and prescribed fires, including firefighting techniques, basic tools and equipment, and some fire behavior considerations.
Live fire practice - apply training concepts to an operational context.
Career development - This training fulfills one of the necessary prerequisites for a NWCG Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) certification.
Pack and shelter test - we will offer arduous and moderate pack tests and shelter deployment tests for those who need those sign-offs for a FFT2 or renewal of those tests.
What you will need for the day
Attire - Wear long pants and long sleeves (natural fibers only) and sturdy leather boots
Eye protection (safety glasses or regular glasses) and ear protection
Leather gloves
A hard hat
Lunch, snacks and water
A pack to carry all of your belongings
*We are able to provide eye and ear protection, gloves, and hard hats if you don’t have these! Just let us know on the registration form.
We will provide morning coffee/tea and snacks, and additional water on the day, but please bring a packed lunch and water. This training will include both classroom and outdoor components.
Other details
PBA members will be given priority consideration if registrants exceed our training capacity.
There is no cell reception on site but we will have internet service at Camp Draper on Saturday.
Upon completion of this course we can issue a certificate of completion for the S-130 Field Day to those who need one. We can also issue pack test and shelter deployment sign offs.
