AI- vs. Human- Moderation Using Biometrics | with Curtin University
What actually changes when the moderator is an AI?
In this session, we’ll share findings from a controlled study conducted with Curtin University that compared AI-moderated and human-led interviews using the same discussion guide and biometrics.
Prof. Billy Sung and Dr. Patrick Duong will walk through what the data shows:
Disclosure and honesty: participants were equally willing to share across both formats
Participant experience: feelings of trust, comfort, and ease of answering were comparable.
Emotional engagement: human moderators fostered a stronger connection and emotional response
So where does that leave researchers?
We’ll also cover how the study was designed, including the use of biometric data to measure engagement beyond self-reported feedback.
The goal is simple: understand when AI moderation works, when human moderation works better, and how to combine both in real projects.
Bring your questions. We’ll unpack the findings and what they mean in practice.
