Command Line Music - Auwen Multiplayer

Virtual
Registration
Welcome! To join the event, please register below.
About Event

Auwen is a command line interface app for creating music. It has a multiplayer mode that allows producers to connect from around the world and make music together.

Experience Level

Complete beginner to advanced

How it Works

We will join a video call channel on Discord. One person will host and participants will send commands through a website command line interface to the hosts computer. The commands control the program and allow us to make music while the host shares their screen and audio on Discord. We often talk by using a text to speech command because it's easier to hear over the music.

Here is a demo video:

How to Join

  1. Install the Discord app for desktop (don't join on mobile)

  2. Join our server at https://soniare.net/d

  3. Go to the #multiplayer voice/video call channel

  4. Pull up Discord and https://soniare.net/multiplayer side by side

  5. On the website join the active room and send your first command like tts hello world to say hello

  6. We'll help you with any questions you have! Beginners are welcome.

How to use Auwen

You don't need Auwen installed to participate in multiplayer since it works through the website but you can download it here afterwards to play around more on your own. https://auwen.app

And check out the #getting-started channel on Discord to start learning.

About the Host

Nes Croft is a musician, artist, and computer engineer from Montana who has written and recorded thousands of songs since a young age starting with folk/rock as a teenager and expanding into experimental pop, IDM, techno, and trance. Nes gained an interest in electronics at age 19 after working at the DIY synth company Synthrotek in Portland, OR. Going on to earn a bachelor's degree in computer engineering at Montana State University. While in college Nes co-founded and developed Vaytricks Beat Machine, a mobile drum machine app that received over 100,000 downloads. 5 years later Nes left Vaytricks to pursue a live performance focused approach to music production and Auwen was born. Auwen is a digital audio workstation featuring a hybrid producer/DJ workflow that allows musicians to perform dance music live using a command line interface. Given the nature of the software, Nes naturally gravitated toward live music events testing Auwen at various electronic music festivals in Montana. Later, Nes joined the livecoding scene in San Francisco and started hosting workshops & live music events at TIAT art gallery and Gray Area in San Francisco in 2025-2026.
