About the Hackathon Polkadot Global Hackathon – Build Resilient Apps with Polkadot Cloud
The Polkadot Global Hackathon invites builders from across the world to create innovative Web3 applications using Polkadot’s Rust-powered SDKs, APIs, tools, and Web3 Cloud infrastructure. Unlike traditional Web3 apps that focus only on DeFi and crypto use cases, Polkadot expands the horizons of blockchain development—empowering developers to bring Web2 applications into Web3 while ensuring decentralization, scalability, and user ownership.
Over 6 weeks, participants will ideate, prototype, and build radically useful apps and chains for a chance to compete for a $40K prize pool. Whether you’re a beginner exploring Web3 for the first time or an advanced developer experimenting with Polkadot SDK, this hackathon is designed to fuel creativity and collaboration.
Themes
Participants are encouraged to submit projects under one of the following three themes:
User-Centric Apps
Build real-world impactful applications that prioritize user control of data, identity, and digital freedom using Polkadot and parachain APIs, tools, and infrastructure.Build a Blockchain
Leverage the Polkadot SDK to build and deploy custom blockchains to the Polkadot Cloud—unlocking use cases beyond smart contracts. Ready-to-use templates make it easier to explore new innovations.Polkadot Tinkerers
An open-ended theme for experimentation. Play with Polkadot’s libraries, privacy tech, cross-chain capabilities, and on-chain compute. From data visualizations to UX improvements or creative proof-of-concepts—let your imagination lead.
