Netca Series #5 - /DFM
A Part That Works Once Isn't a Product
A prototype only has to work once. A product has to be made a thousand times, at a price, without anyone babysitting the process. Most of that cost gets locked in during design, long before a part reaches the shop, and the same part can be easy or painful to make depending on the material it's designed around.
About this Session
This is a practical session on design for manufacturing, and Mike Coyle is here to help us scale up. He'll cover how to take a design from prototype toward production, and how choosing a different material for the same function changes the process, the tooling, and the cost. Bring your questions, and a part or design you're working on if you have one.
About the Speaker
Mike Coyle is an internationally awarded driver in hardware innovation, specializing in ultra-high margin consumer products. He lead the engineering of the Onewheel Pint, and the CLUG bike rack. Mike currently runs MCoyle Design, helping companies make hardware easier.

About the Netca Series
A recurring program for hardware builders in Vancouver who are ready to move past the one-off part. Past and upcoming sessions cover PCB design, metrology, firmware, prototyping, and design for manufacturing.
About Netca
Netca is a co-manufacturing community building a network of hardware builders across the Lower Mainland. We have access to machinery, tools, and machinists. Everything you need to go from idea to physical prototype under one roof.
