​The Bronx Decarbonization Roadmap

​A Community Mural and Public Education Initiative

​The Bronx Decarbonization Roadmap is a community-driven public art and climate education initiative that transforms an existing community-created mural into a permanent public installation while expanding its reach through public programming and accessible educational resources.

​Originally created in 2025 through a collaborative community paint event led by multidisciplinary artist Tijay Mohammed, the mural illustrates the Bronx's journey toward a cleaner, healthier, and more equitable future. Rather than remaining a temporary installation, the project will preserve this community artwork by permanently mounting the original 12-foot by 6-foot mural at Lorillard Place and Fordham Road, where it will be professionally sealed to withstand weather and graffiti while remaining accessible to the public for years to come.

​The permanent installation will be unveiled during a Climate Week NYC celebration on September 23, 2026, from 1:00–3:00 PM. The event will bring together community members, partners, and clean energy stakeholders to celebrate the mural and the Bronx's ongoing decarbonization journey. The unveiling will also launch a broader public education effort designed to help Bronx residents better understand decarbonization and the ways they can participate in building a cleaner, healthier future for their communities.
