Democratizing Synthetic Biology for a More Inclusive Global Future
As part of the European Synthetic Biology Society’s celebration of Black History Month 2025, this seminar explores how we can make the tools, knowledge, and opportunities of synthetic biology accessible to everyone—regardless of geography or resources.
Join Sebunya Emmanuel Kato, founder of SynBio4ALL Africa and iGEM Ambassador for Africa (2023–2025), as he shares his journey and vision for a more inclusive global bioeconomy. Sebunya’s work focuses on breaking down barriers in education and research by empowering students and young scientists across Africa to engage with synthetic biology through open science, community learning, and international collaboration.
In this talk, Sebunya will discuss the importance of equity and accessibility in biotechnology, highlight grassroots efforts driving scientific innovation in Africa, and explore how the global synthetic biology community can work together to ensure that emerging technologies truly serve all people and communities.
