From Chaos to Components: A Practical AI Workflow for Design Systems
Don't miss this live session with Julia Ysabela Fernandez (Meta) and Florian Bölter (Juro/Open Doors) where you'll learn practical, real-world ways to use AI to build and maintain design systems beyond Figma. You'll walk away with actionable workflows, strategies for collaborating more effectively with engineering, and ideas for gradually adopting AI-powered automation.
About the event
Design systems have always lived at the intersection of design and code. AI is making that connection more accessible than ever, but many teams still struggle to turn the promise into a workflow that fits their reality. Most designers are not part of a dedicated design system team; rather, they are balancing competing priorities, working with limited resources, and trying to improve things incrementally.
In this talk, Florian will share a practical approach to building and maintaining design systems with AI from the perspective of a working product designer. You'll look at how a reasonably structured design system, combined with modern AI coding tools and workflows, can help designers contribute far beyond Figma. From tokens and components to repositories, pull requests, and validation in Storybook, you’ll explore how designers can become more active participants in the systems that power their products.
You'll also touch on the organizational side of the equation. What if developers are reluctant to grant repository access? How do you build trust, prove value, and navigate the boundaries that often exist between design and engineering? Finally, you'll look ahead at more agentic workflows and discuss how teams can gradually move toward higher levels of automation without needing to jump straight from zero to one hundred.
About Florian
Florian Bölter is a Staff Product Designer at Juro and the founder of Open Doors, a community and platform dedicated to supporting early-career designers. He spends much of his time exploring how AI is reshaping design workflows and building practical systems that connect design and code. Having worked in teams without dedicated design system resources, he is passionate about helping designers make meaningful progress with the tools and constraints they already have.
