About Event

Returning Land, Together: Roots of LA’s Climate Future is a gathering for organizations, community groups, and neighbors involved in land restoration, habitat care, ecological repair, and related environmental work across Los Angeles. It is also open to people who want to learn more or get involved.

Many groups across the region are restoring native plants, rebuilding soil, supporting pollinators and wildlife, and repairing areas affected by heat, erosion, or disconnection from the land. This event is designed to connect those efforts across sites and neighborhoods and to strengthen the relationships that make this work possible as we move toward LA Climate Week.

This gathering brings together people who are already leading restoration and habitat projects, along with those who are interested and want to get involved. We want everyone to feel connected, supported, and part of the same community. By meeting one another, sharing resources, and exploring simple ideas together, we hope each participant leaves with new relationships and a clear way to take part in LA Climate Week.

Agenda (3 Hours)

(All times approximate; may adjust slightly on the day.)

1. Welcome & Overview — 10 minutes

Framing the purpose of the gathering and its connection to LA Climate Week.

2. Warm-Up Activity — 10 minutes

A simple activity to help participants meet one another across experience levels and backgrounds.

3. Reflections from Local Land Stewards — 20 minutes

Short remarks from several stewards engaged in restoration and habitat work to set shared grounding for the session.

4. Stewardship Rounds: What’s Happening Across Los Angeles — 30 minutes

Participants rotate through brief visits to stations hosted by land restoration and habitat groups. Each station shares what their project is, what’s working, and what they’re learning. This format allows both leaders and newcomers to connect quickly and understand the range of work happening across the region.

5. Group Activity #1: What We Need & What We Can Offer — 30 minutes

Mixed small groups identify shared needs, challenges, and forms of support—such as knowledge, tools, volunteers, skills, connections, or time. This helps build a foundation for inclusive collaboration.

6. Group Activity #2: Prototyping an LA Climate Week Invitation — 35 minutes

Participants co-create simple, realistic ideas they may want to open or expand during LA Climate Week—such as a restoration day, native plant workshop, habitat tour, learning circle, or community conversation.

7. Commitment Sharing — 10 minutes

Each participant shares one next step they feel ready to take within their project, community, or personal learning.

8. Conclusion — 10 minutes

Reflection, appreciation, and optional ways to stay in touch or plan further.

Networking Lunch — Before the Program

Before the session begins, all participants are invited to join a networking lunch alongside attendees from Faith in Tomorrow and other members of the LA Climate Week community. Several organizations will table during lunch to share their work, resources, and ways to get involved.
