Boleh Ke… AI Melestarikan Budaya?
Is it okay for AI to...
Write pantun?
Help preserve oral histories from the elders of Orang Pulau?
Recreate lagu zapin?
And if AI gets our culture wrong, who decides what "right" looks like?
AI is opening up new ways to document, create and preserve culture. But when culture carries history, identity and meaning, where should we draw the line?
Join Lepak Conversations × Lorong AI for an open conversation on how Malay/Muslim communities might engage with AI and culture.
We'll start by finding out where the room stands. What are you comfortable with? What concerns you? What would you never hand over to AI?
Then, we'll move from talking about AI to seeing what it can actually do, with practitioners unpacking the possibilities, limitations and risks along the way.
What to Expect*
A facilitated conversation on AI and culture
Yulianna Frederika, Founder of Lepak Conversations, will guide the discussion and surface the different perspectives in the room.
An AI alignment and governance perspective
Hakim Norhashim, Research Associate at the NUS AI Institute, will respond to questions and concerns from the discussion, drawing on his work in AI governance and cultural alignment.
A look at building with AI
Son Le, Ambassador of Codex and AI Tinkerers, will introduce Codex and show what becomes possible when we move beyond simply chatting with AI.
A practitioner's perspective
Herman Ahmad, will share from his own experience experimenting and building with AI.

⚠️ Important Notes
Bring a laptop with internet access
All experience levels welcome. Come curious, critical or sceptical.
Not Malay/Muslim but curious about the conversation? You're welcome too. Bring a Malay/Muslim +1 so we can keep the discussion grounded in the community and lived experiences we're here to explore.
More About the Organizer
Lepak Conversations curates inclusive and thought-provoking conversations so we can view Malay/Muslim issues from a collective lens, where the focus is on you and I together, instead of you versus me.
More About the Series
Gotong Royong is a traditional Malay concept whereby people living in a kampong (village) do things together and help each other in the spirit of goodwill and reciprocity.
This series brings that spirit to Lorong AI as we create regular opportunities for the Lorong AI community to tackle challenges collectively. When we learn, troubleshoot and build together, everyone progresses faster.
