Building a Portfolio That Tells Your Story
Welcome to the Service Design Careers’ 2026 series.
This is a 5-part webinar series designed to help service designers (and designers from tangential fields like product design, UI/UX design, and design research) build their career narrative and land their dream role.
This specific ticket is for the second session of the series: ‘Building a Portfolio That Tells Your Story’.(Note: If you’d like to book a bundled ticket and receive a 20% discount, you can find the link here: https://luma.com/il4u6uys)
Service design portfolios are hard. The work is often invisible, collaborative, long-running or under NDA, and it rarely produces one beautiful final screen. You still need a portfolio that shows how you think.
This session covers how to build a portfolio that positions you clearly and tells compelling project stories.
What we’ll cover
Positioning yourself: presenting your professional identity and design focus
The right level of detail: showing enough depth to prove your skills without overwhelming the reader
Types of portfolios: the different formats and when to use each
Storytelling: using narrative to make your case studies engaging and coherent
Projects under NDA: how to show confidential work ethically and effectively
Who it’s for
Designers building their first service design portfolio, adapting one from another discipline, or refreshing one that no longer reflects their work.

About your host
I’m Disha, a senior service designer at the Cabinet Office (UK Civil Service) and founder of Service Design Careers. I’ve worked across the public and private sectors, including sustainability, pharma, mobility and luxury, with organisations like Google, Spotify, Sanofi and Camden Council. I lecture at the Royal College of Art, UAL, Glasgow School of Art, Politecnico di Milano and KISD, and have spoken at TEDx, Service Design Network and SDinGov.
I started Service Design Careers because I kept meeting talented designers who struggled to turn their skills into the right role. These sessions distil what I’ve learned from mentoring them.
