decomposition day
A day to slow down, get your hands dirty, and let something go.
What is this? Decomposition Day is a day to just be, and let go. In the forest - the beautiful home of Mycelium Hub. It's a day to step out of the extractive urban grind, meet mushrooms in the woods, and practise the ancient, underrated art of letting go.
Fungi are nature's hero decomposers; without them, nothing would regenerate. Together in nature, we will learn how to shift from extractive to regenerative ways of thinking, by starting with 'rot'.
Simple as that. There is no goal apart from quite literally practising the art of decomposition: creating nourishment and new value by breaking things down.
What you won't do:
open a laptop.
think too hard.
produce a deliverable.
meet expectations.
What you will do:
meet mushrooms in the woods.
find some mycelium.
unravel a bit.
decompose something.
sit around a campfire.
connect with good people.
Mostly, you'll walk away with a new frame for thinking about regenerative futures, sustainability and how we design things.
Bring: walking shoes, snacks, an open mind, and at least one thing that you're willing to let die: a habit, a project, a mindset, a thing.
Who is this for: Futurists, organisers, artists, thinkers, educators, strategists, designers, anyone who's exhausted by extractive systems and ready to imagine possibility. You don't need to know anything about fungi, or regeneration. You just need to be curious, and willing to get a bit mucky.
About the facilitator: Jess Jorgensen is a foresight strategist, fungi obsessive, and founder of Sporesight: a UK/ZA based social enterprise applying fungi-inspired thinking to regenerative strategy and design. With 20 years of foresight experience and a world mushroom research tour under her belt, she guides people and organisations from extractive to regenerative thinking, with nature as a stakeholder.
Other things to know:
Putting fungi principles into practice. After 5+ years researching fungi-inspired design thinking, I'm testing different ways to transform speculation into action.
This is not for profit. If you are able to help us cover our costs, or fund future regenerative nature-centric research, please do. Our futures thank you.
