About Event

Across Los Angeles, faith and contemplative communities are already responding to climate — through teaching, service, advocacy, and care. Congregations, temples, mosques, gurdwaras, and sanghas are witnessing its effects in the communitWhat does LA look like in 2050 if we get this right?

That's not a rhetorical question. On April 9, 300 high school and college students will spend the day answering it — not in a classroom, not in a simulation, but in the room where it actually counts, alongside the civic leaders and elected officials who can help make it real.

The NextGen Climate Policy Summit is a full day of imagination and action. Students will dig into the LA County Youth Climate Commission's priorities report, work alongside peers and policymakers, and draft 30 climate policies from the ground up — then start building the campaigns to advance them. By 4:00 p.m., a new generation of climate designers will have helped chart a course for Los Angeles's future.

Because designing our climate future isn't something that happens to young people. It happens with them.

What the day looks like: Doors open at 9:00 a.m. The program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students will work in peer groups alongside civic and elected leaders — moving from the Youth Climate Commission's research directly into policy drafts and campaign frameworks. No prior policy experience required. Just bring your vision for what LA could be.

For partners, funders, and civic leaders: The policies drafted on April 9 won't disappear into a binder. They'll be championed by the young Angelenos who wrote them. We invite organizations, elected offices, and funders to join us — as partners on this day and as allies in the work that follows.
