​Indigenous Peoples in Isolation: Protecting Territory, Peoples and Climate

​Designed to complement the exhibition Weaving the Heart Beyond the Map: Indigenous Peoples Living in Voluntary Isolation featured at the Rights & Nature Hub, this breakfast event will focus on Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (PIACI) in South America.

​This event will premiere a powerful new documentary on the Ayoreo peoples inhabiting the Chaco, Paraguay, exploring the trauma of contact and the path to community healing. A panel will present on the current dire situation and the impact of the leather trade on driving illegal deforestation with its sprawling cattle operations.

​It will also feature a film and panel on the territorial corridors for the protection of people living in voluntary isolation, a massive Indigenous-led initiative to protect 25 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest in Peru and Brazil to safeguard the PIACI

​This event brings together a collective of organizations If Not Us Then Who?, Quipa Collective, Iniciativa Amotocodie, Rainforest Foundation Norway and the International Working Group on Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (GTI-PIACI). Join us in a breakfast session, meet and connect with the Indigenous Peoples, artists and activists leading this work on PIACI.
