About Event

Who gets to define a terrorist?

For years, the word terrorist has carried the weight of Kenya’s darkest memories that shaped our national psyche. But today, that same word is being used in troubling new ways: to silence ordinary citizens especially young people who dare to protest, question, or demand justice.

Sauti Sessions Edition 3 — #NotATerrorist: Protest, Power & the State, confronts this shift head-on. It’s a civic storytelling experience exploring how dissent is being criminalized, and how protest — once seen as patriotic — is now treated as a threat.

The evening will feature:
- Premiere of “I am Not A Terrorist” -a short documentary by Ian Wafula, tracing his journey from reporting Westgate and Garissa to uncovering how terror laws are being used to silence protesters.
- Live dialogue with Nerima Wako (Siasa Place) and Irungu Houghton (Amnesty International Kenya) on the state of protest and democracy in Kenya.
- Comedy and art by Justine Wanda and a spoken word performance by Willie Oeba, both interpreting resistance and truth through art.

This edition invites reflection, especially now, as we honor Raila Odinga’s lifelong fight for democracy and the right to protest.
