About Event

The San Francisco Ruby Conference brings the community together for three days of talks, conversation groups, and fun. Our goal is to carry programmer's delight and Ruby into the future.

From Nov 10-11 we'll meet at SFJAZZ. Nov 12 is for community-driven events in the city.

What's in it for you:

The conference has two tracks that intertwine throughout the day. While small teams are listening to a talk, big teams are in a conversation group, then they swap (more on this below!). Keynote talks are for everyone.

This way, you never have to sit through a talk that's not for you, and you get to actually meet other Rubyists.

The program:

Day 1 is AI-heavy with talks about agents in production, AI in legacy codebases, and the Ruby tooling for both.

It starts with a keynote by Irina Nazarova (Evil Martians) on why you should start a new company on Rails (and using AI) today. It ends with Ryan Sherlock's (Fin) keynote, "Who Watches the Agents? Closing the Rails Loop from Code to Customers."

Day 2 is AI-light, and it's more about queues, concurrency, real-time, open source, and the businesses built on them.

Rosa Gutiérrez (37signals) will do the opening keynote, "Solid Queue: two years on Rails." Chris Oliver (GoRails) will close the day with a talk on why using Rails is an unfair advantage for founders.

Day 3 is for fun community events. Bring your own event or attend someone else's. Ideas to propose: a walk, a bike ride, an ocean swim, a hackathon, or anything else you want to do together with Ruby friends. Send ideas to conference@sfruby.com.

What are conversation groups:

Guided conversations in a smaller room, where you can introduce yourself on stage for a minute. Everyone gets invited to at least two groups with others working on the same kind of system.

The conversations will revolve around these topics:

  • Startups and startup-minded engineers get to know each other (D1)

  • Big teams share their strategies for agentic coding (D1)

  • Small teams find their people in a matching game (D1)

  • Big teams and engineers get to know each other (D2)

  • Startups meet VCs (D2)

  • Big teams compare Sidekiq, Solid Queue, GoodJob and more (D2)

Teams of five or more get extended time on stage and can present slides to introduce their company. Register everyone in one order: https://sfruby.com/team/. Email us if you need a combined invoice: conference@sfruby.com.

Get your manager to approve:

Check out this page and copy/paste the email to get approval: https://sfruby.com/manager/.

Pre-event experience:

Your ticket turns you into a character on the Pier, our pre-conference game: https://clouds.sfruby.com. There, you can chat with other attendees, complete quests, and earn coins that are exchangeable for real goodies at the conference.

Organized by Evil Martians with the SF Ruby community.

See you in San Francisco!
