aci-d trip : the Milton Glaser Archives
an aci-d trip on 4/20?? How fortuitous. Join us for a group visit to the Milton Glaser Design Study Center and Archives, led by Beth Kleber, the head archivist.
Milton Glaser is one of the most celebrated graphic designers of all time. Glaser defined the identity of a city (I ❤️ NY), the visual language of the 60s (the Dylan poster, Push Pin Studios), and co-founded New York magazine. These archives are the primary repository for his work — original art, sketches, unproduced projects, and artifacts that have never been digitized or exhibited.
Beyond Glaser, the archives also hold collections from Chermayeff & Geismar (the NBC peacock and Chase Bank logos), Ed Benguiat (Playboy logo), Stefan Sagmeister (The Rolling Stones and Talking Heads album art), Gail Anderson (Rolling Stone magazine), Deborah Sussman (the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics visual identity), and George Tscherny (Pan Am), among others.
Beth is curating a selection specifically for aci-d club featuring greatest hits, deep cuts, overlooked designers, and new acquisitions. It'll be a good one.
The archives are relatively small — to ensure everyone has an opportunity to spend time with the materials, we're limiting this trip to 15 spots.
The ticket covers aci-d club's coordination, and guarantees attendance (the SVA Archives are independently free and open to the public by appointment). If you're able, paying $20 helps sustain future events. If the cost is a barrier, please reach out!
