Financing the Clean Energy Transition: Advancing Credible Green and Transition Bond Markets
As Asia accelerates its clean energy transition, mobilizing sufficient capital for renewable energy and enabling infrastructure remains a critical challenge. Green and climate transition bonds have the potential to channel investment toward decarbonization, supporting regional energy transition efforts, including Korea’s Green Transformation (K-GX) and Japan’s Green Transformation (GX) initiatives. Yet realizing this potential requires credible financial instruments that can attract sustained investment while delivering measurable climate outcomes.
While green and transition bond markets continue to develop, questions remain about how to ensure their credibility and effectiveness in supporting the clean energy transition. Differences in market standards, disclosure practices, and verification approaches can create uncertainty for investors and raise concerns about greenwashing. Addressing these challenges requires stronger market frameworks and greater alignment between financial commitments and real-world climate impacts, while ensuring that transition finance supports meaningful decarbonization.
Against this backdrop, SFOC and the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI) will host a panel discussion examining how green and climate transition bonds can mobilize capital for Asia’s clean energy transition and strengthen market credibility.
Bringing together perspectives from financial institutions, policymakers, investors, and civil society, the discussion will focus on improving standards, disclosure, and verification, strengthening investor confidence, and identifying shared priorities among issuers, investors, and policymakers to advance credible climate outcomes and sustained market growth.
