Lino Printing Workshop w/kutlayus
After experimenting with lino printing for a while, I now feel ready to open this process up through a workshop. This session is an introduction to lino printing and the way I approach creating.
The first workshop will take place at BARESPACE on 18 January, from 15:00 to 17:00, and you’re welcome to stay longer afterwards if you like to keep experimenting.
There’s something special about carving lino. It asks for precision, your mind can’t split itself into ten places. You have to stay with the line, with the pressure, with the movement of your hands. And when you stay long enough, your thoughts begin to quiet.
You’re no longer watching yourself create, you become part of the process. This is one of the main reasons I fell with lino printing, an image that lives in your mind slowly becomes real, physical, tangible.
What you will learn
In this workshop you will learn how to:
find ideas and inspiration from simple moments (thoughts, memories, feelings, small things you notice)
transform those inner materials into drawing
turn a drawing into a lino design
carving and lino printing fundamentals
experiment with repetition and variation
understand the origin and usage of lino printing
You’ll leave with
several hand-printed works
your carved lino block
the fundamentals of lino carving and printing, so you can start making your own prints at home
plus whatever the process opens up for you personally
Anyone who wants to imagine, play, and witness how something inside can transform into a printed image is welcome. All materials will be provided and no prior experience is needed.
