About Event

You've heard of accelerators. Have you heard of a Decelerator?

Every year, promising climate startups wind down. What disappears with them: years of experiments, materials data, process notes, dead ends worth knowing about, and hard-won tacit knowledge. The next team starts from zero.

The Decelerator Initiative, a new program from The Engine, works with founders of climate ventures that are winding down or pivoting significantly to turn what they learned and built into a public, searchable repository other founders and researchers can build on. Founders decide what's shared.

Capital already invested in hard science shouldn't create value only when a company succeeds. A more efficient climate ecosystem saves time, and time is the constraint that matters most.

We'll be in New York for Climate Week. Come talk about it over coffee. These are casual, drop-in office hours: stop by anytime between 9 and 11, ask questions, share your perspective, or just say hello.

What to expect

  • A relaxed, come-and-go format, no agenda, no pitch

  • First cup of coffee on us

  • Time with some of the team behind the Decelerator

  • Open conversation about where this could go

Who should come
Accelerators, ecosystem innovators, investors, founders facing a wind-down (or anyone who knows one), and anyone curious about turning company closures into building blocks for future climate breakthroughs.
