Research & Mapping Your Character Universe

​This double-header will focus on lightweight tasks and prompts to keep your characters straight and research to keep your story elements realistic.

​When you’re publishing quickly—especially across multiple books and series—small details start slipping. Side characters reappear with different backgrounds, settings unintentionally change, and opportunities for cameos or Easter eggs get missed.

​Add to that how easily research can become a time sink. Either you stop writing to look things up constantly, or you avoid research entirely and end up with details that feel off.

​In this session, we’ll focus on the types of research that come up repeatedly across many stories—things like how injuries affect characters, what's typically involved with jobs and education, and how basic legal or medical situations work.

​You’ll also learn how to use simple mind-mapping tools, AI, and databases to track character relationships, recurring locations, and crossover opportunities between stories.

​The focus is on maintaining consistency, realism, and intentionally reusing elements to create a more connected and immersive reading experience.
