Quantum Un-Conference
This is a quantum unconference - the anti-conference where you are the speaker. No keynotes, no slide decks. Just curious minds, domain expertise (or eagerness to learn), and open discussion on quantum topics that matter to you.
This is part of a two-day quantum-themed Sundai collaboration. If you are interested in getting hands on code, sign up here for a Sundai Quantum Hack - Sunday February 22nd @ MIT IHQ 10am-10pm
Goals for the day
Meet interesting people in the quantum community
Learn a significant amount through real discussion and peer exchange
Explore topics at the right level: deep dives for experts or gentle introductions for newcomers
How it works
Using post-its to, write topics or questions that are later clustered into interests by topic, per block
Create breakout groups for each cluster
Whiteboards, notebooks, and laptops welcome for sketching, teaching, or note-taking
The Schedule (10min breaks)
2:00 PM | What does quantum actually mean?
Visual breakdown of quantum effects in daily life.
Group discussion of curious quantum phenomena that were previously not obvious.
3:00 PM | Learn stuff!
Choose a fundamental experiment or equation.
Break out into teams for each topic.
Deconstruct the math or logic of each experiment.
4:00 PM | Teach stuff!
Present what you learned with slides or in a chalk-talk.
5:00 PM | What is your favorite Qubit?
An overview of the leading tech in quantum computing.
Break out into teams to study each qubit.
6:00 PM | Which Qubit wins?
Present what you learned orally, with slides, or in a chalk-talk.
Discuss hardware trade-offs, benefits, and scalability, aiming for a candid understanding of the current state of quantum computing.
Core spirit
Be kind, inclusive, and generous with your attention
Ask “silly” questions - they’re often the best ones
Leave with new ideas
