Livecoding Music - Auwen Workshop
This class is an intro to livecoding music with Auwen, an open tool for writing and performing songs in real time.
You'll get hands-on experience building tracks from scratch and playing them in a low stakes, collaborative setting. No prior coding experience needed.
What to expect: installation takes about 5 minutes. Your first beat, maybe an hour. Playing a full set takes a few weeks of practice depending on where you're starting from.
About the instructor: Nes Croft is a musician and computer engineer with about 20 years of production experience across a bunch of genres. Nes built Auwen as part of Soniare to make livecoding more accessible for performers.
After the class you'll be invited to our Discord where we do free office hours and multiplayer sessions, so there's space to keep learning and playing with other people.
The thing that got me into this: live original music is deeply underrepresented. Artists pour everything into their work but rarely get to express it on stage in real time. Auwen is built around that idea, giving you one environment to write, perform, and collaborate without wrestling with hardware or tangled software setups. You can even link up with other artists and play as a laptop band.
