Thomas Wolf is the co-founder and Chief Science Officer (CSO) of Hugging Face, where he has been at the inception of the open-source, educational, and moonshot efforts.
Thomas creates open-source software that makes complex research, models, and datasets widely accessible. He is the creator of the Hugging Face Transformers and Datasets libraries, and more recently, the expansion of open robotics through LeRobot - an open-source ecosystem for datasets, models, and hardware.
He also conducts open-science research in AI/ML, working to lower the gap between academia and industrial labs through projects like the BigScience Workshop on Large Language Models (LLM), which led to the BLOOM experiments, model, and dataset.
Thomas is the author of the reference book Natural Language Processing with Transformers (O'Reilly) and The Ultra-scale Playbook. Recently, his writing has challenged the hope of a "compressed 21st century," arguing that while AI is currently trained to be an obedient student, the field needs a new approach to achieve Einstein-level breakthroughs.
