About Event

When we're kids, people ask what we want to be when we grow up. Then we grow up, and the question changes from what we want to be, to what we want to do. What are we gonna do for the rest of our lives? That's usually where the burnout starts. Or the block. Or the feeling of being lost without knowing why. We're stuck doing, instead of just being.

To Be A Creative is a live, in-person conversation exploring how we get back to ourselves, to being who we are. It's not like those other events you've been to.

No slides, no screens. Just one very silly man (me), and a room full of talented creatives (you), talking honestly about the basics that make a creative life blossom in a healthy way. I'll talk, we'll talk, and we'll all listen. It's gonna be like therapeutic motivational comedy, for all of us.

If you're human and breathing, you're a creative. So come be creative with me. Bring what's hard right now, and what's working. We'll move through it all together, with a little music, some laughter, and a few simple things you can start being, right away.

Your ticket includes food, non-alcoholic drinks, a couple other surprises, and voice memos from my creative past, shared live for the first time.

Oh, and you'll be in a room full of people worth being with (cough, friendship, cough, cough, networking, cough).

Hi, I'm Jeremy Spektor. I'm an actor, filmmaker, writer, director, producer, athlete, comedian, and improviser. I'm also a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a son-in-law, a brother-in-law, a cousin, and about a million other things. Most days I'm several of them before lunch. I was recruited to play Division-I football out of high school, then did a total 180: a BA in drama from the University of Washington, an MFA in acting from CalArts, and comedy training at the Groundlings and UCB. I've done stand-up in LA, New York, and Seattle, toured as an improviser with The Story Pirates, and acted on stages like the Guthrie and REDCAT. I've meditated for over a thousand hours and filled over a thousand pages of journals. The more I learn, the clearer one thing gets: who we are, and who we can be, is never finished. Along the way I've been blocked, burned out, and stuck more times than I can count, and yet here I am again, writing another bio, for another moment of being. One thing is for sure, I'm excited to meet you, and to learn with you too.
