About the Exhibition
Step into a fleeting moment of encounter. In Being-seen-being, Yolandé Gouws explores the reciprocal gaze between human and forest, where both exist in the same state of present, and witnessed.
Through works forged from the chestnut woods of Tailhos, France, she captures the quiet geometry of branches at the point of meeting. Cherry stems rest within chestnut frames, bound by silk; the forest itself holds agency, offering its presence in relation to yours.
Each piece is a captured crossing at a point where two evolving systems meet, acknowledge one another, and continue. The same reciprocity exists between you and the artwork: you witness it, as it witnesses you.

About Yolandé Gouws
Yolandé Gouws is a South African artist and curator based in Berlin. Her work, rooted in a deep belief in interconnectedness, transforms materials like wood and silk into poetic encounters that reference weaving, architecture, and the origins of culture in craft.
With a background in architecture and experience producing exhibitions for artists like Olafur Eliasson and Alicja Kwade, she channels a lineage of making—from her French Huguenot ancestors to residencies in rural Japan—into site-responsive works that explore moments of mutual presence.
