Mapping Tomorrow: Solarpunk Systems Thinking Workshop
Mapping Tomorrow is a full-day event where cross-sector professionals come together to lay the foundations of a shared systems map, envisioning the building blocks of a futuristic solarpunk city.
The event runs from 10am to 6pm and is structured around two independent co-creation sessions: a morning session from 10am to 1pm and an afternoon session from 3pm to 6pm. You're welcome to join either session or both. Each 3-hour session accommodates up to 15 participants and stands on its own. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Workshop Objectives
Participants will be introduced to participatory systems mapping tools and explore how city subsystems such as food, energy, mobility, technology, and governance interact through cause and effect relationships and feedback loops.
Who Should Attend
The workshop is open to anyone curious about the future of cities and no prior experience is required. We especially welcome people from a range of disciplines and backgrounds, including design, urban planning, art, engineering, education, community organizing, activism, and related fields. It is a good fit for those who:
Want to contribute their voice to a collective creative work
Enjoy hands-on activities
Are ready to engage in cycles of discussion, feedback, and refinement
Participants may register for one or both sessions, as each will address different topics and subsystems. A full 3-hour commitment to at least one session is expected.
What You Will Take Away
By the end of the workshop, participants will have deepened their understanding of systems thinking and gained hands-on experience with participatory mapping tools.
They will also form new connections with people who share a commitment to building hopeful futures, along with a sense of agency and a shared vision for the next steps of the systems mapping process.
About the Host: Mapping Tomorrow is organized by Daria Shiv, a design strategist with over five years of experience across architectural design, urban design, and interdisciplinary strategy. She brings a systems-thinking approach to creative problem-solving. This workshop is an independent initiative rooted in Daria's commitment to community-driven innovation and participatory processes. By bringing together curious minds from across disciplines, Mapping Tomorrow is both a creative exercise and a step toward building the kind of collaborative, hopeful futures she is passionate about.
