Journey Into Abstraction: Light Sculptures

​All materials, including lightbulbs and lamp bases, included!

​Paper lanterns have an ancient history beginning in China, where they served practical uses such as protecting flames from wind and also were central to sacred practices that celebrated light and its power. In this art workshop, you will use naturally-dyed mulberry and rice paper, foraged wood and rattan, along with your own electric lamp base to create an abstract version of a paper lamp.

​In this workshop, we’re inspired by traditional forms but not bound by them, as you will learn how to use abstract shapes and techniques to create symbolic meaning without obvious symbols.

​Please come wearing clothes you don’t mind getting messy!
