field:work | Exploring MaxMSP
What happens when we approach sound not just as something to listen to, but as something we can shape, manipulate, and experiment with?
Led by sound artist and designer Louis Quek, this workshop introduces participants to Max/MSP, a visual programming environment for working with sound, music, and interactive systems.
Through an introduction to Max/MSP’s patch-based approach, participants will explore how different elements can be connected to create and manipulate sound, opening up possibilities for experimentation with synthesis, audio processing, and generative sonic systems.
Whether you’re curious about electronic music, sound art, or creative technology, the session offers an opportunity to discover new ways of thinking about and working with sound.
About the Artist
Louis Quek is a Singaporean sound artist and sound designer working across sound installation, live audiovisual performance, and computational systems. His practice explores the relationships between sound, space, perception, memory, and materiality, drawing on psychoacoustics, machine listening, and feedback systems to create evolving sonic experiences that challenge how we listen to and experience our surroundings.
Workshops & Explorations is a monthly series within 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱:𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, inviting participants to experiment with different tools, materials, and approaches to art-making across media art and creative technology.
