About Event

In 2023, the European Parliament, the Council, and the European Commission designated 15 July as the annual EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis. The date marks one of the deadliest days of the 2021 floods in Belgium and Germany.

This photo exhibition opens on the 15th to bring to life the human stories behind the statistics. It invites visitors to pause and reflect on both the causes of climate change and the actions needed to address it. At the opening, we wish to discuss together with you on how climate disasters can be handled.

The exhibition begins with the work of Greek photographer Ilir Tsouko. In 2023, Greece was hit by a series of devastating natural disasters that plunged entire communities into darkness, leaving people overwhelmed by loss and uncertainty. Seeking to understand what happens after the media attention fades, documentary photographer Ilir Tsouso and writer Anja Troelenberg returned to the affected areas months later. For Climate Victims Day, a selection from their exhibition Beyond Destruction is presented, offering powerful visual and narrative fragments that explore the tensions and connections emerging in the aftermath of disaster.

The exhibition also features Italian Pact Ambassador Simone Padovani. A Getty Images contributor who collaborates with National Geographic and other international magazines, Padovani has developed social projects with institutions such as Fondazione Guido Fluri, ECA Global, the Council of Europe, and the European Union. He serves as Italian Director of the Justice Initiative and as European representative for ECA Global. For Climate Victims Day, he presents a selection of his work on climate-related disasters in Italy, including the floods in Venice, avalanches in the Alps, and extreme heatwaves.
