Arabic Calligraphy Workshop
Arabic calligraphy is the highest form of Islamic art. It is rooted in Islamic spiritual practice. In this hands-on workshop you will learn the philosophy, art, and science of Islamic calligraphy. You will learn to make proper nuqtas and then practice forming different letters in the Thuluth style of calligraphy. Towards the end of the workshop you will have the option to write your name in Thuluth style or your choice of a word in Arabic.
Each participant will receive a hand-carved bamboo pen, ink, and special calligraphy paper to continue the practice at home.
Kashif is a Cambridge-based visual artist and a calligraphy student of Istanbul-based Master Calligrapher Shahryanshah who has ijazah in Riq’a, Diwani, Diwani Jali, Thuluth, and Naskh.
Our café will be open throughout the evening with drinks and light offerings. As a nonprofit, purchases from the café help sustain Minara and support the care, labor, and resources that make this space possible.
