About Event

This session presents findings from an independent evaluation of Neighbors for Peace (Vecinas y Vecinos por la Paz), a community security program operating across 25 municipalities in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico.

The program — grounded in indigenous communal institutions rather than externally imposed models — achieved a 42% average crime reduction in intervention zones, more than twice the city average, while rebuilding trust between residents and public institutions.

The presentation will cover program design and its social foundations, quantitative impact data, citizen perception across different urban zones, key recommendations, and the potential for replication in other contexts in Latin America and beyond.

Presented by Xquenda Artes e Investigación para la Transformación Social, with the support of Open Society Foundations.
