About Event

Around the world, governments and companies are making major investments to move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy. To power new energy systems, transition minerals – including nickel, lithium, copper, and cobalt – are needed to build new technologies, including electric vehicle batteries, solar panels, and onshore and offshore wind farms.

Decarbonizing global electricity, transportation, and industry is imperative to avoiding to most catastrophic impacts of the climate crisis, but the push to secure minerals is leading to human rights abuses, serious environmental harm, and in some places significant carbon emissions to power industrial complexes.

Join us for a panel conversation at San Francisco Climate Week to investigate the impacts of the global mineral race and what governments and companies can do to respect people and the planet.
