The Loop Catcher - a listening workshop with Ishan Gupta
How do we listen to our environments?
When we listen to our environment, what stands out? What do we recognise and what does our brain filter out? How do we process the sounds of the spaces we live in and move through? When does listening shift from being passive to active?
In this listening workshop, Ishan will lead you through a few exercises through which we will attempt to understand how ambient sounds are received and understood through patterns and randomness.
While the workshop is being offered free of cost, we are asking participants to submit a 5 minute long recording of your own domestic ambience beforehand (preferably from a balcony or near a window) as material for the listening exercises.
The workshop session will be followed by an interactive / collaborative / participatory ambient jam session. We may potentially also do some fun tinkering and making!
Artist Details
Ishan is a musician, sound designer and recordist based in Bangalore. Shifting from a background in WASH, he has been interested in understanding how we listen. He has previously been a fellow of Veditum's Moving Upstream Fellowship.

There is no fee to join the session. We will have a voluntary donation box at the venue to support the programming.
