We will gather in the beauty of this community garden to read and discuss selections from bell hooks.

Join us for an afternoon to read "Africulture" by Michael Carter Jr. Together, we will explore her powerful insights on
Bring your favorite mug, an open mind, and a desire to connect deeply with others. Additional text copies will be on-site, or bring your own filled with notes. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Who's invited?
Anyone with an interest in learning about more from Black writers, bookish community, and/or wanting a mindful shift towards environmental + racial justice.
What about parking?
There is no dedicated parking lot for the garden. Visitors rely entirely on open neighborhood street parking along Peralta Street and 8th Street.
BART Proximity: The garden is located near West Oakland Station.
Safety Note: Like many urban metro areas, vehicle break-ins can occur in the surrounding Lower Bottoms neighborhood. It is highly recommended to leave absolutely no valuables in your car.
What about accessibility?
The garden has undergone efforts to widen the paths at the primary entrance specifically to make it more navigable for visitors with mobility needs and wheelchairs. Due to it being an active community farm, the interior surfaces primarily consist of unpaved dirt, mulch or uneven ground. Depending on weather paths may be muddy.

Is this a paid ticketed event?
No, this is a free event for BIPOC identifying people. However, donations are welcomed to support the facilitator and cover upcoming events.
