Data-Driven Climate Governance: Mobilization, AI, and Resilience for Climate Adaptation
How can different approaches to data production and use strengthen climate governance, adaptation, and community resilience?
During New York Climate Week 2026, Instituto Decodifica and Columbia Global Center Rio will bring together representatives from civil society, government, academia, philanthropy, and community organizations for a multisectoral dialogue on the role of data and technology in strengthening climate adaptation and resilience.
The conversation will explore how different approaches to producing and using data, including Citizen-Generated Data (CGD), monitoring systems, and IA, can support more effective and inclusive public policies and decision-making.
The discussion will build on two initiatives developed in Brazil. Instituto Decodifica’s Retratos das Enchentes uses Citizen-Generated Data to document the impacts of flooding in peripheral communities and support the development of adaptation responses based on local priorities. Columbia Global Center Rio’s AI-enabled climate preparedness initiative explores the use of artificial intelligence, early warning systems, and community-generated data to strengthen communication between residents and public authorities.
Following the presentation of the two initiatives, participants will take part in a multisectoral discussion to exchange perspectives, identify shared challenges and opportunities, and explore potential areas for collaboration.
