About Event

Hosts: Francesco De Lieto (Managing Director at OBE Sustainability) & Emma Mee (Chief of Staff at Colbridge Ventures).

Guest: Rushad Nanavatty leads Third Derivative, the global climate tech accelerator housed at RMI, a nonprofit focused on advancing the energy transition. In his role, Rushad works to find and help startups developing solutions to the energy transitions biggest challenges. At RMI, he was instrumental in establishing the Global Cooling Prize, advancing breakthrough low-emissions cooling technologies. Rushad previously led a clean energy startup and worked at McKinsey & Company’s sustainability practice.

About the topic: The world consumes around 600 exajoules of primary energy every year. Roughly 380 are lost before they deliver the energy services we actually want. That is not just an efficiency problem. It is also a huge map of opportunity. Live from The Drop, Raw Green sits down with Rushad Nanavatty, Managing Director at RMI and Third Derivative, to take stock of where the energy transition really stands, and, more importantly, where the next big gains could come from. Renewables are scaling fast. But enormous opportunities remain in the less glamorous parts of the system: energy efficiency, electrification, cooling, buildings and industrial heat. Some already have proven technologies waiting for wider deployment. Others still require difficult science, engineering and new financing models. We’ll explore where the low-hanging fruit really is, which climate technologies could unlock the next wave of deployment, what still needs to be invented, and how we turn technically promising solutions into businesses and projects that can actually scale.

About Podcast Hour

During the Podcast Hour, some of our favourite podcasts record live in front of a Drop audience. Rather than keynote-style interviews, these are thoughtful conversations with founders, investors, and industry leaders exploring the ideas shaping the future. Grab a seat, listen in, or wander between recordings as the sessions unfold.
