Teaching History to Keep It – The Power of Oral History and History-telling

​History preservation is a movement practice, and for the past several years, the Environmental Justice Oral History Project has been building the syllabus to prove it. This closing panel for the day-long Stories that Move program, brings together our oral history team, land advocate and oral historian Ambar Wortham, and our academic partners from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill – a faculty collaborator and a student researcher who helped shape the Mothers of the Movement collection – for a conversation on what it actually took to turn oral history into both a rigorous documentation practice and a teachable pedagogy. We'll dig into memory, accountability, and what it means to pass knowledge between generations.
