Europe’s Stablecoin Moment: Competing in a Dollar-Dominated Market

This panel examines Europe’s positioning in the global stablecoin landscape, particularly vis-à-vis the United States, and the conditions for the emergence of a European model. The discussion focuses on market dynamics, sovereignty considerations, and the role financial institutions—especially credit institutions—may play in the issuance and distribution of euro-denominated stablecoins.

It also addresses regulatory and prudential constraints such as capital requirements, liquidity, and balance sheet implications. More broadly, the panel explores how stablecoins may integrate into the European financial ecosystem and support the development of competitive and resilient market infrastructures.
